They usually occupy holes in and around the home, garden sheds, holes in the ground, compost heaps and other little cracks and crevices.
Wasps are attracted to many types of food, they live on protein as well as sugars. Often people believe wasps eat just sweet food, such as fruit, sugary drinks, alcohol and sweets etc, although these foods are attractive to insect activity.
It is common to see them tucking into meat and pretty much anything they can get to. Therefore it is not just a case of removing the sweets from the picnic! The best thing to do if you are being overwhelmed in the garden is to watch them for a while and find where they are coming from, then call in a professional pest control company such as NMP who will safely and effectively remove the problem.
You should never ignore a nest. Wasps will continue to grow as the weather permits and the majority of the nest will die off with the coming of winter… BUT, at the end of the season, the queen of each surviving nest will produce between 8 & 20 new queens who will then go and build a new nest nearby. This means that next year your problem is likely to be A LOT worse. Secondly, a nest begins life the size of a small ball, approximately the size of a golf ball, after several months of growth the nest can get as big as several beach balls clumped together and it is not uncommon to see one bigger than a person. At this point usually they will have to expand beyond the original cavity they are occupying, this means they will chew through plasterboard and wood in your property in order to expand. Structural damage caused by wasps can have serious consequences. We have seen it time and time again where ceilings collapse and nests break into the property. Often joists/ loft materials are damaged.
The method used in wasp nest removal will either be a direct application using a professional powder or spray or a space spray/ fog if the nest is less accessible. The results are very quick, often all activity will be gone within 24-48 hours, and if the problem persists beyond 7 days NMP will come back to re-treat the problem free of charge as part of our guarantee.
